Those are the quilt patterns I love when everything just flows from the center. Joyce finally got her quilt cut, laid out and pinned. The heleconia makes a beautiful and full design. Personal design for Joyce from John Serrao. Can’t wait to see the completed quilt.

They come from near and far. Different cultures and ideas but we all have one thing in common the love for quilting. The Hawaiian quilters of Poakalani & Co. perpetuating a fragile art and culture.
Sometimes You Just Know…
…That it’s time to put away that needle and thread and breakout the sewing machine. Our amazing and wonderful Margaret e-mailed me this photo of her last hand-made quilt. Yes, the next step is working on a larger quilted piece. I was happily surprised when the Woodrose pattern was the design of choice for the next project. The flower is found throughout Hawaii and a favorite among the many locals. Can’t wait to see it completed.
Ikumi’s Dove Orchid Hawaiian Quilt
John doesn’t design birds because every time he designs a Hawaiian quilt with birds the quilter, John likes to say, flies or moves back to the mainland. So no birds and no leaving but he designs orchids even dove orchids breaking that kapu. Congratulations Ikumi for a beautiful quilt. I hope you quilt with us…
